Meanwhile in Antigua and Barbuda, government officials have denied criticism from the opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) that it has been inefficient in combating an upsurge of violent crime on the islands. The ALP has called for a national symposium to come up with suggestions to deal with the problem because of the governments alleged inaction on the issue. According to official records, 12 murders have been recorded in Antigua and Barbuda this year, compared with a total of three murders for the whole of 2005.
