In St Lucia, Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony is reportedly trying to distance himself from accusations made by his governments Attorney General Philip Lacorbiniere that the Sandals hotel chain was trying to influence the outcome of elections by firing some eighty workers from the resort some days ago. La Corbinierre made this public statement after the employees were relieved from their posts for allegedly trying to join a union. Former Prime Minister Sir John Compton has condemned Lacorbinierres action as a ridiculous outburst and has demanded that the AG apologize to the management of the resort for implying that their action was politically motivated. Sandals currently employs 1400 people in St Lucia. Elections are scheduled to take place on that island on Dec 11.
