In Jamaica the controversy over the proposed auction of Peter Toshs legendary M-16 guitar has been put to a temporary rest. According to Paul Bucknor, Director of the Flashpoint Film Festival, the auction has been called off. Bucknor claims that legal matters concerning the ownership of the guitar have led to the termination of the auction plans. The festival director maintains however that Flashpoint had never claimed to own the guitar, but had agreed to facilitate its sale on Ebay on behalf of Marlene Brown, the late Toshs common law wife. The controversy over the sale of M16 rifle-shaped guitar, also called the Steppin' Razor guitar, arose in Jamaica after the reggae icons former manager Copeland Forbes publicized his objections to the sale of the instrument which featured greatly at many of Toshs performances until he was killed in 1987. Forbes and the late icons son Jawara McIntosh, maintain that the guitar is a piece of national history which should remain on home soil.
