Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises contributed over US$1,500,000 to Caribbean countries affected by hurricanes this season.
The two lines are donating US$1,250,000 in cash to be distributed among The Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Grenada. Horace C. Hord, Jr., the cruise companys regional vice president of government and community relations for the Eastern Caribbean said an additional US$50,000 of these funds is for the Caribbean Tourism Organization, thats the CTO Relief Fund, set up to provide monetary assistance to affected member states.
The lines will also donate the remaining US$15,000 to the Caribbean Hotel Association Foundation , the CHA for children affected by the hurricanes. The CHA and the cruise lines will jointly determine how these funds are disbursed.
Both lines are working with various governments to allocate crew resources for infrastructure cleanup for the next several weeks.
