The hunt is on in Guyana for the recapture of nine prisoners who escaped from the Mazaruni Prison this month. Police and army officials have launched a massive man hunt in the heavily forested area surrounding the Mazaruni prison, which houses some 200 inmates. According to reports the escapees fled from the facility after overpowering two prison officers. The escapees are Anil Sancharran; Ryan Ramsarose.; Kenneth Richardson; Ryan Reid; Trevor McLean; Azim Shivnarine, Denishwar Sooklall, Alizarudin Azad Khan, and Randolph Rodrigues. Sooklall and Khan were among three youths who were convicted for a 2004 rape and murder of schoolgirl and Ranolph Rodrigues was convicted for manslaughter. According to offcials, this jailbreak is reminiscent of a 2002 incident when five high profile criminals made their escape after killing one prison office and seriously wounding another.
