As the countdown toward Cricket worldcup begins, some cricket fans are still voicing their concens about the travel visa requirement. Barbados Deputy Prime Minister Mia Mottley responsible for the Caribbean's security arrangements for the World Cup has continued to defend the controversial visa which comes into effect from February 1 and lasts until May 15.
She said "The countries involved in cricket are countries that are involved in the global war against terror."
Cricket fans from the United States, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Britain, The Netherlands, South Africa, Japan, France, and all CARICOM nationals except Haiti, do not require the Caricom visa. But citizens of non-exempted countries, such as India and Pakistan, are required to have a visa.
Meanwhile, simulation exercises have been taking place in St Vincent and the Grenadines to ensure that the infrastructure can indeed handle the big event. The Opening Ceremony for this years Cricket World Cup is scheduled for March 11 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
