Its official. LIAT and Caribbean Star have solidified their arrangement and are now one airline. LIAT, now the Star of the Caribbean officially joined the Caribbean Star family on Feb 1, 2007. According to reports, officials from the airlines top ranks were on hand at airports around the Caribbean, personally checking in and facilitating passengers travel, to commemorate the occasion. Meanwhile, 40% of Caribbean Star employees will lose their jobs from this merger, which translates into more than 180 of the airlines staffers. The disenfranchised workers have been promised their salary and benefits for the month of February, as compensation.
