Indian Authorities accuse West Indian Cricketer of Foul Play, Board of Control denies ...
Just one month before the debut of the World Cup tournament in the Caribbean, West Indian batsman Marlon Samuels has come under scrutiny by Indian Authorities. Police in India have accused the batsman of leaking team information to an illegal bookmaker during the recent one-day series in India. Amitesh Kumar, deputy police commissioner in central Nagpur city, said his Police force had tapped conversations between Samuels and a bookmaker identified as Mukesh Kochar on January 20 and 21. Kumar, who could provide no reason as to why the West Indians phone line had been targetted, said that although no financial commitments were made between the player and the bookie, he insisted that the Cricket Board commence its investigations on the matter. According to Kumar, the Nagpur police have informed both the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the International Cricket Council of the matter.
