In Antigua, Australian Cricket Team Captain Ricky Ponting has criticized the efforts of the groundstaff at The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium for not doing enough to clear up the field after an onslaught of overnight rain rendered it too soaked for immediate play. The Super Eights match between Australia and Bangladesh was delayed by five hours after the grounds only Super Sopper, (a device for removing surface water), broke down. After the breakdown. officials at the stadium then resorted to treading on pieces of sponge to soak up water around the outfield, much to the dismay of the spectators and the waiting teams. Ponting said that at one point he approached the officials at the stadium only to be told that the groundstaff were on lunch break. The Australian captain felt much more effort should have been placed on ground staff team work.
