In Atlanta, on last Fri. 24, World International Boxing Assoc. (WIBA) light heavyweight champion, Guyanese, Gwendolyn ONeil lost to Laila Ali, daughter of the Legendary Muhammad Ali. The two fought for the vacant I-W-B-F light heavyweight title without putting their own belts on the line. ONeil, a thirty five year old mother of five, known as the Stealth Bomber, had no answer for the speed of Laila Ali. Ali knocked down ONeil twice in the second and once in the third round. The referee stopped the bout in the second minute of the third round. At the post fight conference, Ali praised the Guyanese for her courage while ONeil requested a rematch in Guyana. A large Guyanese contingent showed up to support the loser but, could not match the hometown support of the winner.
