Authorities in the Dutch Caribbean territory of Suriname have given the go ahead for the paving of a road to the Canawaima Ferry terminal connecting Suriname to its English speaking neighbour Guyana. Officials say that the road will significantly improve economic activity and facilitate the development of the western part of Suriname, which is home to numerous rice and cattle farmers. The project is expected to increase the movement of people and goods between the two regions and also aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The 13.2-million-euro project is being financed by the European Commission from the 9th European Development Fund. |
