Major controversy in Jamaica over the newly released report from Scotland Yard that disproves all previous accounts by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Jamaica, Mark Shields. According to the report from Scotland Yard, Bob Woolmer died from a heart attack and NOT from strangulation, as had been initially reported by Shields. The Scotland Yard report specifically said Woolmer died of heart failure, contradicting earlier reports by the investigative arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and local pathologist, Dr Ere Sheshiah, who had conducted a post-mortem on Woolmers's body. The former Pakistani cricket coach was cremated at a private ceremony in South Africa last week.
Meanwhile earlier this week the deputy commissioner of police said that The Woolmer case has been filled with speculation as to the cause of his death and Shields again asked for restraint.
"Every theory, from weed killer to aconite, has come from the media, not the police. We maintain that this is an ongoing murder investigation and I stick by the statement released by the police on Sunday," Shields said. "I have already spoken to Mrs Woolmer and she has expressed her satisfaction with the way the investigation is proceeding," he added.
