On the island of Cuba, residents in the Western provinces of Camaguey and Holguin are recovering from an onslaught of rain that has destroyed a few homes and claimed the life of at least one citizen. According to a report from Cuban authorities, the preliminary toll is one death from drowning, plus mudslides around the Tinima and Hatibonico rivers. Meanwhile, the Civil Defense Team is keeping a close eye on dams, rivers and low lying areas prone to flooding or ground saturation. Cuba, like most of the islands in the Caribbean, observes a hurricane season which spreads from the beginning of June to the end of November each year.
