Guyanas government is ready to give any support necessary to the U.S in the fight against terrorism. This is in the wake of three Guyanese and a Trinidadian being fingered in an elaborate and fouled plot to blow up the John F Kennedy (JFK) airport. Guyana and Trinidad were rocked by news that the three Guyanese - Abdul Kadir, Russel DeFreitas and Abdel Nur- and a Trinidadian, Kareem Ibrahim were suspected of planning to blow up a jet fuel supply that feeds from New Jersey to the JFK airport, as well as, a fuel storage tank at the airport. Ibrahim, Kadir and DeFreitas were nabbed, and will face the courts as a result of the alleged failed plot. This latest development brings into sharper focus the need for greater cooperation among countries in the fight against international terrorism. If convicted in the US, the men could face a maximum of life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, In Condemning any planned act of terrorism in any country, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Patrick Manning says his administration is committed to supporting the efforts of the US Government in its war on terror. In addition Manning said, his Government and Trinidads local security forces have been cooperating with and assisting the US authorities for some considerable time, in the exchange of information on sensitive matters of security in Trinidad and Tobago and the region.
