St Vincent Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves chastised St Lucia over a new airline service it proposed. Gonsalves, taking part in the Brasstacks call-in program on Starcom Network, accused St Lucia of giving LIAT a raw deal by proposing a new service between the island and Barbados by the United States carrier American Eagle. He received some support from Barbados, with Minister of Tourism Noel Lynch saying St Lucia should have "engaged" LIAT in discussions before contemplating the move. But Lynch admitted that Barbados could not stop the American airline flying there. Gonsalves charged that St Lucia was allowing American Eagle to "cherry-pick" lucrative routes. He even said that LIAT's shareholder governments had made concessions to St Lucia.
