In Trinidad, Chief Justice Shatnarine Sharma has been granted permission by the Trinidad Court of appeal to go to the British Privy Council to ensure that the Prime Minister Patrick Manning, Attorney General John Jeremie, Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson and Appeal Court judge Roger Hamel-Smith be cross-examined in a lawsuit challenging the impeachment initiated by the PM against the Chief Justice. Sharma was previously accused and charged for attempting to influence the outcome of a case against former PM Basdeo Panday, but the case collapsed after Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicholls, a key witness, refused to be cross examined. Now, Sharma wants to ensure that Manning gets his own cross examination, hoping to prove that the current and past attempts to remove him from office as Chief Justice, have all been politically motivated.
