Under the laws of Grenada prostitution is a criminal offense. Scores of women are often seen in the south of St Georges accompanied by both local and regional military personnel armed with shotguns and M-16s, in some cases along with food hampers at a time when other Grenadians are tear-gassed and chased while sitting outside their houses in St Georges.
A Trinidad military officer, in the presence of two locals, said he was appalled at the behavior of the other officers who are supposed to be the guardians of the relief supplies and the citizens.
He also spoke of some local officers who fill their private vehicles with relief materials after officials from the National Emergency and Relief Organization (NERO), have left the compound.
Meanwhile, the government of Prime Minister Keith Mitchell has rejected a proposal by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the formation of a national unity government in light of the national crisis left by Hurricane Ivan.
