Critics of Fidel Castro in the US this week recorded a significant victory in the battle against the revolutionary leaders 47 year fight against America. Members of the House voted 254 to 170 to increase the democracy program's funding fivefold to $45.7 million for the 2008 fiscal year. The huge increase was backed by the White House and South Florida members of Congress who want to bring international pressure against the Cuban government while encouraging dissent within Cuba. Critics of the fund say that too much money is being wasted trying to rouse the public against Cuba, instead of trying to help Cuban dissidents. |
