Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in Barbados, Senator Erskine Griffith, has reported that his Ministry may soon be the recipient of aid from China or Mauritius to develop possibilities in developing cane varieties for use as fuel, as well as potential markets for sugar exports. Griffith made these announcements on his return from an official trip to China in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between that country and Barbados. He subsequently visited Mauritius to attend a meeting of the Council of the International Sugar Organization (ISO). Griffith said that the ISO was interested in developing a particular brand od sugar cane in Barbados high in sucrose and bio masse which could be used for the production of ethanol and electricity.
