Captain Barrington Irving Jr, a Jamaican born aviator who recently made history by becoming the first black pilot to fly solo around the world, received a heros welcome when he arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston this month, on invitation from Jamaicas Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller. The young pilot made the visit as part of that countrys Independence Celebrations, officially celebrated on Aug 6 every year. Irving was received by a welcome party from the government, members of the opposition, local aviators and a wide cross section of excited citizens.
