Jamaicas Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has signed an historic accord with Brazilian President Luiz Incio da Silva. The two part agreement includes a Visa Exemption Agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding on Academic Cooperation. Under the agreement, the government of Jamaica has offered 10 scholarships to Brazilian nationals over a two-year period, for training in hospitality skills at the HEART TRUST/NTA, as well as provision of coaching, training, and administrative guidance in the area of track and field. In return the Brazilians have agreed to assist the Jamaican football team with training and strategy, in addition to continued collaboration with Brazil in the ethanol and sugar sectors, as well as agriculture. President da Silva is the first Brazilian Head of State to visit Jamaica.
