PJ appeals for unity

Monday, January 23, 2006

PJ Patterson has announced February 25 as the date for the vote for Jamaican Prime Minister his successor as president of the ruling People's National Party and told the contenders for his job that they must campaign in a fashion that maintains the unity of the PNP.
In fact, with complaints going-to-and-fro between the campaigns for the four candidates - Portia Simpson Miller, Dr Peter Phillips, Dr Omar Davies, and Dr Karl Blythe - who have declared themselves in the race, Patterson insisted that they and their key handlers will have to sign a code of conduct holding them to decency and decorum.
Patterson became the leader of the PNP and prime minister of Jamaica in March 1992 on the retirement of the late Michael Manley, then beating the populist Simpson Miller for the party's top post.
The prime minister, whose self-effacing, low-keyed consensus-building style has been credited with lowering political divisions in Jamaica, led the PNP to three national electoral victories.
But he had announced after the last one in October 2002 that he would not lead the PNP in another general election.
Patterson, who turns 71 on April 10, used a special session of the PNP's National Executive Council at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston recently, to set out the first part of the timetable to elect a successor.

PJ appeals for unity
Look at it this way, CHANGE IS ALWAYS GOOD. It doesn't matter who is taking over. Politics in Jamaica should be like this........... A Prime Minister should only be able to stay in power for maximum 6 years no matter what (two 3 year Terms)..... that way it will indulge the younger generation to stay in school and study to become Prime Minister one day. In that way you will have MORE Prime Minister Candidates running for office every 3 - 6 years at Election time with more ideas and more Jamaican youths will have a shot of being in and a part of Politics instead of giving up hope and turning to crime. Just like in the US, there is a Term limit for Presidents and that is it for them........ That will Definately solve alot of things in Jamaica. We need Jamaican people who lives there to take control because we feel what is happening to us..... not someone who lives most of their life Outside Jamaica........

Thank You Persival James (PJ)
PJ thanks for all you did for Jamaica. You've been such agood leader to our country. People today forget where jamaica is coming from based on it's status as a independent country due to the fast upgrade in housing, the roads, our education level, and sporting (which little people know that the poplitical leader has a effect on due to the faccilities they created ). These and other areas weren't the same before you came in power esspecially when the white guy (Seaga) was in power. Again thank you annd i will always support you at my fullest.

PJ Patterson
Mr. Prime Minister you did a good job, I dont belongs to any party at all. You got rid of the IMF pay down the debt, or we would have been in the same situation like Haiti. People dont remember that. when the INF was incharge: the then "Norman Mandley International Airport" was a mess, the bathroom was filled with crap on the floor and wood fire was been used to cook food to sell travelers at the airport, people dont remember these things. I could go on and on but I will leave the rest to other people. I will support the next Prime Minister be it JLP or PNP or A-Z once they continue to develop Jamaica.
