Ladies, handle your own safety this Carnival

Tuesday, February 21, 2006

Women playing mas or just jumping up this Carnival season in Trinidad and Tobago are warned they should not rely solely on band managers or leaders for their safety or security.
Assistant Police Superintendent Margaret Sampson-Brown was the one giving the advice. She said women should not depend on their external environment for their protection but need to rely on themselves.
President of the Rape Crisis Society Marcella Alcala also gave safety tips for the female reveller or party goer.
Before leaving for the event the society advised that you tell someone where you are going and what time you are expected back. They also advised that all transport to and from functions should be arranged before hand.
A study of reported rape cases to the society for 2004 showed no increase during the Carnival season.

Safety Tips
I diffenetly think that some advice should be given to people who are attending carnival, expecially woman. There is no garantees now a days what somebody else is capable of doing to somebody else. Especially when they can't take no for an answer.

VERY UNGRATEFUL
This is not fair, these women and men are performing for you the (government) and the country and your'e telling me that they can't be assured tight security for one day/night. They always want; but they can't give back. In every business the little people always do the good or dirty jobs; but the big people always get the credit. The women should bear in mind to drink responsible, know the do's and don'ts of interacting with strange men/women. Not because security is there they should not let their guards down.
